Students from nine universities have registered to join the competition and their works have been judged by a panel of four judges who are local and international industry experts and lecturers from higher learning institutions. The competition was launched on 16 August, 2015. The grand prize of 2-month internship with LOGON, China was won by Lim Yonghuort from Royal University of Fine Arts. The first prize of US$1000 cash went to Ing Porlin also from Royal University of Fine Arts. Taing Narong from Norton University won the second runner up prize of US$500.
H.E. Thai Norak Sathya, Secretary of State of Ministry of Culture, said PPCC’s Street Furniture Design Competition is a good competition providing the opportunity to young talented people to showcase their knowledge, creative idea, and they can absorb new experience from the event. He added that the competition does not just improve students’ knowledge and experience but it is in line with national policies of the government of Cambodia and it contributes greatly to the society. He hopes that the winners will use their knowledge to help develop society and for those who do not win the prizes don’t lose hope and they have to try their best to study for better future.
H.E. Touch Visalsok, Under-secretary of State of Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, praised Phnom Penh City Center for the idea to initiate the competition to participate developing Human Resources in Cambodia. “The designers not only have the concept idea of design but they are knowledgeable of and combine with culture, technology, skills, and they take the environment into account,” he added.
“The result today reflects the consciousness of loving architecture, urban planning and construction as many participants have registered to join the competition. This competition also reflects the young talented human resources in the Kingdom of Cambodia whom will contribute constructing Cambodia”.
H.E. Phuoeng Sophean, General Director Board of Architects Cambodia and Secretary of State of Ministry of Land Management and Urban Planning in his speech, said “I appreciate this effort and is very proud to be associated with Phnom Penh City Center for initiating this excellent idea to organize Street Furniture Design Competition to find young, talented future architect for our Kingdom of Cambodia. I see so many young faces that have the potential to make a name for themselves locally and hopefully, internationally.”
